Chile stock market falls after Boric’s victory

The Chilean Stock Market fell after the victory of the candidate of the Chilean left was announced, who prevailed against Antonio Kast

The Santiago de Chile Stock Exchange suffered a 4.96% drop this Monday, just after an election day in which the candidate of the Chilean left, Gabriel Boric, prevailed in the presidential elections against the far-right Antonio Kast.

Specifically, the Chilean selective stood at 4,142 points, in contrast to the 4,357.78 points recorded at the close on Friday. Among the titles that fell the most were Aguas Andinas (-12.1 %), Engie Energía Chile (-9.91 %) and Copec (-9.59 %).

Boric, is emerging as the winner of the second round of the presidential elections held on Sunday in Chile. He will take office on March 11, 2022.

Election day was marked by reports of a lack of public transportation in Santiago and other urban areas, to the point that private citizens have offered their vehicles to transfer voters.

Boric’s adversary, Antonio Kast, congratulated his electoral rival after the preliminary results, as well as a good part of the Latin American left and Spanish and European political representatives.
