Canada and the United States to resume trade talks

This Monday, Canada announced the rescission of the United States' digital services tax, thus resuming trade negotiations between the two nations

This week began with good news for the United States, after the Canadian Department of Finance announced the rescission of the digital services tax, which would take effect on Monday, June 30.

As you may recall, US President Donald Trump announced “the unexpected breakdown of trade negotiations between the two countries.” However, two days later, the Canadian government decided to eliminate the digital services tax (DST), which affects large US technology companies.

In this regard, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett stated: “My expectation is that taxes on digital services around the world will be eliminated, and that will be a key part of the ongoing trade negotiations we are undertaking.”
