Brazil expects a 7 % increase in food production during 2025

Next year is shaping up to see a 7 % growth in Brazilian production of items such as cereals, legumes and oilseeds, according to estimates by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) expects that in 2025 the production of some foods in the country will increase by 7 %. The items mentioned in the study are oil seeds, cereals and legumes.

According to the local agency, the production of these foods will reach 314.8 million tons. Regarding the end of 2024, the IBGE indicates that “the harvest expected for this year will be carried out on 79.1 million hectares (1.6% more than in 2023)”; while for the year that is about to begin “plantations may increase by 0.8 %, to total 79.8 million hectares”.

The projections also foresee an increase in rice production, by 3.1 % to 10.6 million tons; wheat (8.1 million tons, with an increase of 5 %), soybeans with 12.9 % for 163.5 million tons; corn by 1.7 % to reach 117.5 million tons.
