Netflix ad-supported plan surpasses one million subscribers

The cheapest plan of the streaming content platform got a space within the company's offer

The cheapest plan with ads offered by the Netflix streaming content platform has exceeded one million users despite its slow start, which is leading this modality to consolidate itself as one of the pillars for the company’s growth.

The company launched its Basic plan with ads in November last year, in exchange for including ads, lowering playback quality, and removing some of the most viewed titles from the catalog.

Netflix sees in this plan one of the pillars for the company’s economic growth, as confirmed to shareholders in January in the document on the financial results for the fourth quarter of 2022.

Then he assured that although it was still early for the announcements, and they had a lot to do, they were satisfied with the first results obtained, after two months of its implementation. Now, it has been known that said subscription had exceeded one million users in the United States.

Specifically, the Basic plan with ads grew more than 500 % in the first month and 50 %. And according to the company, those who access this new plan are mainly new users or those whose subscription has expired.

The potential of the Basic plan with ads is yet to be seen now that the company has begun to dismantle account sharing at Netflix, a decision to which it links paid shared accounts, which are the other pillar it relies on for growth.
