Digital economy in Latin America must continue to grow

Next Monday a virtual forum will be held between the agency Efe and Huawei, where this and other issues will be addressed

The opinion of several experts agrees that Latin America should carry out a greater impulse in the use of the digital economy, in order to favor its development and be able to face different types of crises.

This topic, among others, will be discussed in the virtual forum that will be held next Monday thanks to the Efe agency and the Huawei company.

Various experts such as representatives of the public sector, ministers, and officials of Latin American governments will participate in the forum “Connectivity for Shared Prosperity. The Essential Digital Economic Engine”, which seeks to contribute to the dialogue on the digital economy and sustainable growth in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Senior Vice President of Huawei Technologies, Catherine Chen, assured that the company considers it a priority to be able to bring better broadband connectivity and technologies in the region, in order to favor growth.

“ICT development is the answer to these new challenges, enabling the digital economy, driving new economic growth and greater digital inclusion in the region”, Chen said.

The Latin American and Caribbean countries are in a second segment of technological development in the use of the three variables that mark the digital economy: broadband access, cloud services and artificial intelligence tools.

“Technology lessens the impact of a crisis like the pandemic. In the most developed countries, the drop in GDP has been 7 % and Latin America 14 %, which shows the importance of the digital economy”, explained Joaquín Saldaña, director of Strategy and Marketing at Huawei Latin America.
