OAS accepts Guaidó ambassador as representative for Venezuela

The motion was supported by countries such as Argentina, the United States, Canada, Chile, among others

This week, the permanent council of the Organization of American States (OAS) accepted the representative appointed by the interim president of Venezuelan National Assembly Juan Guaidó.

However, according to said council, this decision will be maintained until free elections are called in the country.

Thus, Gustavo Tarre will represent Venezuela as an envoy designated by the National Assembly.

The text was put to the vote after an amendment by Jamaica, which modified the initial draft submitted by Colombia, with support from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Paraguay and Peru.

The council also urged the secretary general of the OAS, Luis Almagro, to process said text to the secretary general of the United Nations, Antonio Gutuerres.

The countries that favored the designation of Tarre were Argentina, Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, the United States, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic and St. lucia.

On the other hand, Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Dominica, Granada, Mexico, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Uruguay voted against the decision.
