The United States decided to remove Venezuela from the list of countries under U.S. investment controls, according to an announcement from the Treasury Department on Thursday, October 22.
According to media outlets that reported the decision, “the U.S. Treasury will accept comments until December 7 on these proposed rules, which were required by the Comprehensive Foreign Investment Security Act of 2025 (known as the COINS Act), passed by Congress.”
The Secretary of the Treasury Chris Pilkerton stated that the Trump administration’s decision aims to guarantee the country “the ability to monitor and potentially prohibit those types of investment that could pose risks to U.S. national security.”
Trump had already indicated that, given the current state of relations between the two nations, there is no justification for maintaining restrictions on U.S. investment and capital.
