ChromeOS will stop receiving updates in 2034
Google announced that ChromeOS updates will end in 2034, adding that users of recent Chromebooks will be able to migrate to Googlebook OS
Google announced the end date for ChromeOS updates. This will occur in 2034, according to new licensing terms.
The company indicated that this does not mean Chromebooks will stop working. In fact, it clarified that users of these devices will be able to migrate to Googlebook OS, although it did not provide details on compatible devices or the migration process.
“Googlebook OS will have a 10-year support cycle from the CPU launch, and its enterprise management will arrive in the second half of 2027.
This information is particularly relevant “for organizations that purchased devices with a support lifecycle that could extend beyond that date, although the source does not specify which models or specific timelines would be affected.”
However, the expectation remains regarding the anticipated end date for ChromeOS updates and the potential migration of certain devices to the new system. In this regard, “Google confirmed the former, but has not yet provided sufficient details to translate the migration expectation into a plan applicable to every Chromebook. So, administrators and users will have to wait for further information.”
