The presidential elections in Brazil will pit the current head of state, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, against Flávio Bolsonaro in the first round this Sunday, October 4, in a contest with 158 million voters.
According to a Quaest poll, Lula da Silva maintains a lead over Bolsonaro, “although it projects a tie between the two in a potential second round, in a race marked by a small percentage of undecided voters.”
The current president of the South American country is seeking his third term, with a lead of up to six points over his opponent, Flávio Bolsonaro.
According to the Quaest poll, Lula has 39 % of the vote intention, two points higher than last week, while Bolsonaro’s figure is 34 %, one point higher.
Once the results are known this Sunday, October 4, a second round is expected on October 25. This will occur if “no candidate surpasses 50 % of the votes.”
It is important to remember that, in addition to electing the new president of Brazil, on Sunday the Chamber of Deputies will also be renewed, two-thirds of the Senate will be elected, and the 27 regional governors will be chosen.
