Brazil and France strengthen cooperation on cross-border security

During the recent visit to Brazil by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, both countries signed a roadmap on cross-border security, focused on combating drug trafficking and environmental crimes

The recent visit to Brazil by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot served to strengthen bilateral cooperation on cross-border security.

During the meeting, both nations signed a roadmap for cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking, environmental crimes, and various criminal organizations that have expanded into French Guiana in recent years.

Regarding this, Barrot stated: “This roadmap will facilitate human and economic exchanges (…) but also strengthen our joint action against all types of crime, especially drug trafficking and environmental crime.”

The measure includes the suspension of visas for Brazilians entering French Guiana, effective July 31, which will aid in the “fight against crime by providing greater registration and information gathering,” according to Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira.
