Mérida, a unique destination

If you decide to visit Mérida this Easter, discover and enjoy the Bancamiga Gastronomic Route with a 10 % discount at Da Enzo Pizzeria, Copas Gelato Bar, Santo Pecado, La Taquería, and A tu Gusto. And get 50 % off at the theme parks and amusement parks Los Aleros, La Montaña de los Sueños, and Alexis y la Venezuela de Antier.

Many were already able to enjoy these discounts last weekend, when the state of Mérida once again hosted the most demanding national cycling competition. More than 1,000 cyclists challenged the legendary terrain of Mérida in the sixth edition of the Gran Fondo Collado del Cóndor, an event organized by Ultrabikex with the support of Bancamiga. The race offered four distances: 123 kilometers from Estanques, 80 kilometers from Mérida, 46 kilometers from Valle Hermoso, and 26 kilometers from Mucuchíes.

While the 2025 edition of the Gran Fondo made cycling history by achieving Guinness World Record certification for the longest climb in the world, this year’s edition was no less remarkable, becoming the first time a cyclist completed the 123-kilometer route in under five hours. Yurgen Ramírez, from Barinas, crossed the finish line in 4 hours and 55 minutes.

Among the finalists in this year’s 80-kilometer race were members of the Bancamiga cycling club and the institution’s ambassador, Amanda Dudamel. Upon reaching the summit of Collado del Cóndor, she stated that she was very tired but happy because the Gran Fondo “brings us all together to celebrate sport, our city, and challenge our abilities. It also served to demonstrate what Venezuelans, and especially Venezuelan women, are capable of.”

This sixth edition held special significance for the sporting community and the residents of the area, as it was the first major event of this magnitude held after the torrential rains of the middle of last year, which severely damaged the roads in the Andean highlands.

The successful completion of the challenge provided a boost to the economic and tourism recovery of the towns in northern Mérida, which, in addition to their hospitality, boast paradisiacal locations that make Mérida a unique place in the country.
