Venezuelan engineer selected to travel to space in 2029
Melina Nava, a young Venezuelan engineer from the state of Zulia, is now part of the Titans Space Industries program and will be able to travel to space in March 2029
The Titans Space Industries program selected Venezuelan engineer Melina Nava, a member of the 2025 Astronaut Candidate Class, from among the applicants to travel to space in March 2029.
Nava, a native of the Cabimas municipality in Zulia state, shared the information on her social media. She explained that she was selected from among thousands of applicants and that she is the only Venezuelan in the training program that will take her to space.
She explained that the private company Titans Space Industries opened the application process, she decided to submit her information without high expectations, and was selected among the first 50 candidates.
The young industrial engineer is, so far, the only Venezuelan in the program, a process that was conducted through a virtual interview. “They told me: welcome to the team. I was in shock,” she said, referring to the moment as a dream.
The future astronaut is expected to begin her training for space exploration in March 2029, the scheduled flight date. This training includes “psychological tests, physical preparation, and technical knowledge to know what to do in emergencies and how to operate equipment.”
