Venezuela was crowned champion of the 2026 World Baseball Classic, defeating the United States 3-2, unleashing euphoria among fans who took to the streets to celebrate this historic achievement.

The game between the two teams remained close during the first half, with Venezuela taking the lead in the third inning when Maikel García hit a single that allowed Salvador Pérez to score and Ronald Acuña Jr. to advance to third base. Wilyer Abreu then hit a home run in the fifth inning.

The score was 2-0, but in the eighth inning, the United States tied the game with a home run by Bryce Harper. Venezuela responded strongly; Eugenio Suárez hit a double to center field, driving in Javier Sanoja for a crucial run for the Venezuelan team.

Given the importance of this victory for the country, acting president Delcy Rodríguez declared Wednesday, March 18, a National Holiday, urging young people and fans in general to celebrate in parks and plazas.
