Venezuela reduces public sector working hours for six weeks

This Sunday, March 23, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced the government's decision, through the Ministry of Electricity, to reduce the public sector working hour for six weeks to four hours per day, three days a week

Through the Ministry of Electricity, the Venezuelan government announced the reduction of the public sector working hour from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., applying the 1×1 system, which consists of one working day for one non-working day.

The main reason for this decision is the global impact of the climate crisis and the need for energy savings. It applies to ministries, governorates, and other government agencies.

The Ministry of Electricity urged the rest of the population to “support these actions with other effective measures, such as setting air conditioning temperatures to 23 degrees Celsius, taking advantage of natural light, and unplugging electronic devices when not in use.”
