The Venezuelan Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, emphasized that the government has reaffirmed its commitment to the development and promotion of nuclear energy for peaceful uses that benefit humanity, such as in the field of medicine

The Venezuelan Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, announced through her Telegram account the country’s commitment to the development of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Jiménez stressed that the development of nuclear energy is aimed at benefiting humanity, in fields such as “medicine and the study of animals and plants.” She also stated that “there are numerous and diverse peaceful applications of nuclear energy.”

The official asserted that Venezuela “has advocated for the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and nuclear threats,” noting that the country became, in 1955, “the first in Latin America to have an institute dedicated exclusively to nuclear science and research, now the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research (IVIC),” in addition to having a research nuclear reactor.
