“Cash is still king, but as technology and online platforms develop, some are adopting more sophisticated methods to launder their profits,” Police Chief Graham McNulty said in the statement.
Cryptocurrencies, especially bitcoin, are frequently used for illegal operations such as drug trafficking, money laundering, among others. According to Chainalysis, in 2020 it is estimated that transactions of this type reached 10 billion dollars.
