TikTok announced the closure of its music service next November, after taking into consideration different factors that have not allowed it to compete with the big players in the streaming market.
TikTok Music, launched in 2023, did not become an effective competitor, so the platform will no longer be available on November 28. The video network experiment comes to an end in a segment dominated by Spotify and Apple Music.
The decision was announced last week through a statement, which details that “user data will be permanently deleted from the closing date. Users have until October 28 to transfer their playlists to other music platforms.”
TikTok Music’s ambition to offer a “fresh and attractive alternative to traditional streaming services” did not catch on in the market. According to analysts, this was due to different factors.
One of the main reasons is the saturation of the streaming market, which is also led by giants such as Spotify and Apple Music. But this is compounded by a poor offer of innovative functionalities, a limited focus on integration with the short video platform.
Also, the platform was not attractive to users, although it had a wide catalog of songs, since, presumably, “it was not as complete as that of its competitors.”
