The US and China would have reached a trade agreement

Both governments would have an initial agreement on the exchange rate, intellectual property rights, among other aspects

The United States and China said they have a “basic agreement” to resolve their trade disputes on a number of issues, including the exchange rate or intellectual property rights, which still need to be resolved, as stated by the secretary of the US Treasury, Steven Mnuchin, who stressed that in the case of failure to realize the threat of new tariffs on Chinese products will come true as of December 15.

“I keep great expectations: if there is no agreement, those tariffs will come into force, but I hope we reach an agreement”, Mnuchin told the US CNBC.

In this regard, the US official said that there is “a very basic agreement”, which lacks a lot of work and that includes intellectual property, financial services, currency and exchange rate, as well as structural issues in agriculture, including purchases.

In this way, the head of the US Treasury described as “substantial” the first phase of the trade negotiations with China, recalling that once the ‘phase one’ is completed it will go to the ‘phase two’, as indicated U.S. President Donald Trump.
