The United Kingdom will accept payments with cryptocurrencies

The Minister of the Economy of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, reported that the use of some cryptocurrencies in the nation is soon to be formalized

The UK Finance Minister, Rishi Sunak, reported that he intends to formalize some stable cryptocurrencies as a valid form of payment in the European nation to make it an important point of investment and the development of technologies linked to crypto assets.

The executive said in a statement that he will explore the possibility of using decentralized database technology, similar to that used by bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, to improve the “efficiency, transparency and resilience” of financial markets in the United Kingdom.

In this way, the British government considers that stable cryptocurrencies, digital assets whose value is linked to that of traditional currencies such as the US dollar, can offer “efficient payment methods and expand options for consumers.”

In particular, he will assess the potential benefits of using these technologies in the framework of sovereign debt instruments.

“We want to see the businesses of tomorrow, and the jobs they will create, here in the UK. By regulating effectively we can give them the confidence they need to think and invest for the long term,” Sunak said.
