The first EU countries will start a coordinated vaccination campaign

The conference will take place from December 27 to 29 as long as the European Medicines Agency gives its approval

The countries of the European Union will begin their vaccination campaigns against the coronavirus between December 27 and 29, provided that the European Medicines Agency gives its approval to the candidate of Pfizer and BioNTech next Monday, and the European Commission confirms authorization for its commercialization in the following days.

This was announced at a press conference by the German Health Minister, Jens Spahn, and later confirmed by the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, in a brief message on Twitter that does not specify which Member States will be the first to activate their campaigns.

“It is Europe’s time. On December 27, 28 and 29 vaccination will begin in the EU. We protect our citizens together. We are stronger together,” said Von der Leyen.

Von der Leyen’s spokesman, Éric Mamer, explained that the distribution of the vaccine will not begin until December 26, always conditional on authorization the days before, and that afterwards the member states must organize to administer the doses.

“The fact is that we are in contact with the Member States. It is wiser, in view of the size of the EU and the diverse situations, to have several days to launch the campaign. But the vaccines will begin to be delivered on the 26th,” summed up the spokesperson.
