Since July China does not approve new video games

China's regulatory body has not approved new video games since the middle of last year

The Chinese regulatory body that is in charge of approving new video games for commercialization in the country has not published new lists of accepted games since the end of July 2021.

China’s National Press and Publications Administration (NPPA) has not approved new video games in the Asian country for almost six months, marking the longest period since 2018, when there was a nine-month hiatus.

Since the end of July last year, no video game company, local or foreign, has been able to commercialize new titles in the region, something for which authorization from the government regulator is necessary.

Coinciding with the new suspension, around 14,000 companies related to video games have been closed in China, as reported by the state media Securities Daily, which cites data from the business analysis firm Tianyancha.

This figure comes after in 2020, due to the impact of the pandemic, 18,000 companies dedicated to video games stopped appearing in the records.
