Salary of workers in the United States will increase in 2022

American workers in 56 cities, counties and states will have a salary increase next January, according to a report from the National Employment Law Project

The National Employment Law Project of the United States (NELP) indicated in its most recent report that on January 1st, 2022, workers will obtain an increase in their wages. It will be applied in 56 cities, counties and states.

According to the NELP, the minimum wage in 33 jurisdictions will be brought, on average, to US $ 15 per hour for some or all employees. However, the possibility of exceeding this amount was left open.

In the press release of the National Employment Law Project, they note: “These record increases come as we approach in 2022 the 10th anniversary of the first strike by fast food workers to demand US $ 15 and a union.”

Rebecca Dixon, executive director of NELP stressed that the pandemic has deepened labor and wage inequalities, leading workers to demand increases and better biosafety and quality of life conditions.

No salary increase since 2009

From the NELP they have indicated that wages have remained at US $ 7.25 per hour since 2009. As a consequence, the labor force has begun to organize in order to form unions in companies where they do not exist and demand higher pay for their performance.

With the approval of the new salary, which could exceed US $ 15 in most of the industry sectors, it is expected to improve the living conditions of people in 25 states and 56 municipalities, reaching a record of 81 jurisdictions.
