Sony announced that the game console has already exceeded 40 million units sold since November 2020

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced that its next-generation game console, PlayStation 5 (PS5) has exceeded 40 million units sold worldwide since its launch in November 2020.

The new Sony console went on sale in a first group of seven countries on November 12, 2020 and was generalized to the rest of the world, including Spain, on the 19th of that same month. His bet for the new era of entertainment was a futuristic design with white, black and blue LED lights, with the matching DualSense controller, and support for 4K UHD resolution and later also 8K.

Its launch, however, occurred in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis. “We were facing headwinds with the pandemic, and it took months for supply chains to normalize so that enough inventory could be held to meet demand. In this regard, we continue to thank the community for their patience, but now the supply of PS5 is well supplied and pent-up demand is finally being met,” SIE resident and CEO Jim Ryan said in a press release.

In this context, the company has just announced that the console has exceeded 40 million units sold worldwide since its launch. During this time, the content has also been improved, with a catalog of more than 2,500 games, and the ability to customize the experience, with new colors for the PS5 controller and covers.
