PS5 console shows the highest electricity consumption

The most recent console from Sony, according to a study, is the one that demands the most energy for its use

PlayStation 5 (PS5) is the next-generation console that consumes the most energy, with an average of $ 200 during its entire cycle of use, while Nintendo Switch is the least, according to a study by Nerd Wallet.

The research, carried out in the United Kingdom, analyzed the average cost of each console user, taking into account both their price and that of their games as well as other aspects such as their energy consumption, and revealed that PS5 in its version with disk support is the console that users spend the most money on today, an average of more than $ 2,000 per person.

This cost takes into account the price of the console, an additional control, original headphones, nine video games at launch price, the average of PlayStation console users, the PS Plus subscription and also its energy consumption in eight years of use and 890 hours played per year.

The version with disc support and the digital version of PS5 consume the same, according to the study. However, these data represent a reduction compared to the average consumption of its predecessor, the PlayStation 4, which spends approximately $ 250 on electricity, in its useful life of eight years and 819 hours of annual gameplay.

For its part, the hybrid Nintendo Switch console is the one that uses the least energy among the new generation, with 125 dollars during its average life cycle of six years and playing 1,131 hours a year.
