Popular consultation on community projects to be held on November 23

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has set November 23 as the date for the fourth National Popular Consultation on community projects

Venezuela will hold its fourth National Popular Consultation on community projects on November 23, as confirmed this Sunday, November 2, by President Nicolás Maduro.

On the selected date, the community projects submitted so far will be put to a popular vote. In this regard, the president emphasized that these consultations seek to “strengthen and transform each of Venezuela’s communities through coordinated work with popular and communal power.”

In a message posted on his Telegram channel, the Venezuelan president celebrated the high citizen participation in these consultations, indicating that there are already more than 2,500 Assemblies of Popular and Communal Power; “This is a step forward ‘towards a new system of direct and neighborhood democracy,’” he added.

The popular consultation is considered a mechanism of direct democracy that allows organized communities to define local priorities and “channel proposals for their implementation, within the framework of a territorial governance strategy promoted by the Executive branch.”
