The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, called for taking advantage of the opportunity offered by the common ties of history, knowledge and tradition that exist between Colombia and Spain so that both countries become strategic partners and commit to greater investments.

During his speech at the Spain-Colombia business meeting, held this Thursday at the CEOE headquarters, the Colombian president pointed out that this close relationship between Spain and the different countries of the Latin American region becomes the “central “of the European Union-Celac Summit, which will take place in July in Brussels.

Said act will be led by Spain, as the country with the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of the year, which Petro valued as an “opportunity”, since Spain plays an “important and strategic” role with Latin America.

“Spain understands Latin America, knows it and has lived through it. So, there is an opportunity. It is not a relationship of subordination, it is an opportunity to become partners,” said the president of Colombia.
