Microsoft has launched a free trial and downloadable version of the online version of Office. This is an option to the paid version and is financed by advertising.
With this alternative, users have the opportunity to “use most of the functions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint, without needing a subscription.”
The trial is limited and includes the functions of Microsoft Office for desktop, “which allow you to create and edit Word, Excel or PowerPoint documents.”
The novelty is that they include advertising, since their financing depends on it, and some of their features are limited.
The ads appear within the applications in an advertising banner on the right of the screen that cannot be removed. On the other hand, “advertising videos of around 15 seconds are played every few hours of use.”
According to the media Beebom, in this version users do not have the option to save their documents locally, but to store them in OneDrive. “In order to save the documents on the computer, they must be downloaded later from the application or the OneDrive website. In addition, Microsoft offers a capacity of 5 GB of free storage in OneDrive for this service.”
