Miami mayor studies placing portion of city treasury in bitcoin

A few days ago the mayor of Miami, Francis Suárez, made a new reference to bitcoin (BTC) by stating that he would consider putting 1% of the mayor's treasury in the first cryptocurrency

The senior community official said on social media that he is willing to explore that possibility in 2021. Suarez’s statement came after Morgan Creek Digital podcaster and co-founder Anthony Pompliano consulted his followers about public funds from the city.

Suárez stated: “Definitely (I am) open to exploring it.” In response to a person on the networks, who asked him if it was possible for the mayor to process municipal payments in BTC. The mayor added that they would work on that possibility the year that is about to start.

Charlie Shrem, one of the first entrepreneurs of the bitcoiner ecosystem and co-founder of the BitInstant exchange house, also participated in the conversation. Shrem mentioned Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the state’s chief financial officer Jimmy Patronis. The latter highlighted the fact that the mayor shows enthusiasm for the “expansion of the financial sector.” He even reinforced the approach by saying that he, as the person in charge of finance, must keep public money safe, something that bitcoin would offer.
