Meta to remove Facebook “Like” and “Share” buttons from external websites
The technology company Meta recently announced that in February 2026 it will remove the Facebook “Like” and “Share” buttons from external websites due to a noticeable decline in their use
Meta announced the company’s recently agreed-upon measure to remove the Facebook “Like” and “Share” buttons from external websites.
The technology company stated that the decision was made following the decline these features have experienced in the face of the evolving digital landscape.
As you may recall, the “Like” button was activated on the Facebook social network in 2010, and “three years later, the technology company brought it to external website posts along with the Share button, with the goal of boosting traffic.”
Both buttons will be deactivated on February 10, 2026, to “maintain a modern and efficient platform.”
