Meta tests direct messaging on Threads web

The company has begun testing direct messaging on the web version of Threads to facilitate navigation between multiple feeds

Threads director Connor Hayes recently indicated that Meta has begun testing direct messaging on the web version of the social network.

According to the executive, they will invest more in this area going forward, taking into account user interaction. The goal is to facilitate navigation between multiple feeds.

It’s important to remember that Threads has allowed sending and receiving direct messages since July 2025, “but the feature is restricted to the mobile app. However, the company is working to extend this feature to the web.”

Hayes shared a screenshot on his account showing the “changes that will be incorporated into the interface. Among them, the sidebar stands out, where direct messages are located.” He shows that the sidebar includes, in order, the ‘For You’ feed, New thread, Search, Messages, Activity, Profile, Stats, and Saved.

Meta has not provided details on the release date for this update, “which will allow users to also access stats and saved messages, in addition to direct messages.”
