Brazilian cryptocurrency exchange Mercado Bitcoin recently signed a contract with Brazil’s retail energy provider Comerc to develop two renewable energy tokens.
The launch of this digital asset, which will be linked to a reimbursement scheme for solar energy, is scheduled to take place in 2022.
The second token will be linked to certificates documenting energy consumption from renewable sources.
Nori CEO Matheus Nogueira indicated that “the token can be treated like any other currency, but it has an additional benefit: it is a token that represents a renewable generation.”
Mercado Bitcoin claims to be the largest cryptocurrency in Latin America, with more than 3 million customers. The exchange lists 11 coins and has a trading volume of 19.4 million in the last 24 hours.
