LEGO is adapting to the changing times, where new technologies allow for an unforgettable user experience, with the launch of Smart Brick, intelligent blocks with sound reproduction and motion tracking.
This is a new way to enjoy the company’s iconic building blocks, which are approaching their centennial this year.
Smart Brick is “an incredible 2×4 technological piece that can recognize the constructions we make thanks to sensors that react with lights and sounds depending on the piece it’s connected to. For example, if we connect the Smart Brick to a car, the block will recognize the construction and start making sounds appropriate to the vehicle.”
In this way, the company breathes new life into players’ creations with sound and light, taking entertainment to the next level.
This innovation is possible “thanks to the company having built its own ASIC chip, a type of integrated circuit customized and adapted to perform a specific task.”
Regarding the availability of Smart Brick, the Danish company has said that the first one will be released this March with a Star Wars theme, “featuring iconic starfighters from the legendary saga such as the X-Wing and the TIE Fighter, which will come to life thanks to this new technology.”
According to wfla.com, the Smart Play system “consists of three main components: Smart Bricks, Smart Tags, which are flat LEGO pieces that tell the Smart Bricks how to behave (for example, to light up or make certain sounds), and Smart Minifigures that activate the Smart Bricks in unique ways.”
They work in conjunction with existing bricks and play sets, adding a new interactive layer to the physical construction, with the aim of “encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and experimentation, not distracting from them.”
