White House press spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt announced on Tuesday that the president of the country, Donald Trump, will give a place in the room to social media influencers, podcasters, bloggers and representatives of new media.

The official indicated that the new media will have a place in the press room alongside the traditional ones, such as large American newspapers and television networks.

The statement said: “We will open this press room to new media voices that produce informative content and whose media are not represented in these seats. We welcome independent journalists, podcasters, influencers and content creators and urge them to apply for credentials to cover this White House.”

The pressroom will be reorganized to accommodate new media. Currently, it “has 49 seats, all assigned to a specific media outlet.”
