The Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, also called the Zhongguancun Science Park Administrative Commission, released this important document during the Zhongguancun Forum. According to local reports, the report recognizes Web3 technology as an “unavoidable trend for the future development of the Internet industry.”

The commission aims to make Beijing a leading global hub for innovation in the digital economy. To achieve this, it plans to allocate at least US$14 million per year until 2025. Yang Hongfu, director of the management committee of Zhongguancun Chaoyang Park, revealed this information during the forum, noting that Zhongguancun is widely recognized as China’s “Silicon Valley”.

The white paper is aimed at enhancing political support and accelerating technological advances to fuel the growth of the Web3 industry in Beijing. This initiative was well received by the community, being highlighted by Changpeng Zhao, CEO of Binance, who considered that the timing of its publication was “remarkable”. Zhao stressed that this comes just as new cryptocurrency regulations will take effect in Hong Kong on June 1.

Last week, the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission announced new regulations for the cryptocurrency industry, allowing retail investors to participate in cryptocurrency trading starting June 1. This coincides with the implementation of a new licensing framework for cryptocurrency platforms.

On May 23, China Central state television aired a segment that featured the Bitcoin logo and a Bitcoin ATM in Hong Kong. Changpeng Zhao mentioned the importance of this hedging, since it has historically been related to the rise of the market. The segment also highlighted non-fungible tokens, though it was later removed.

As previously reported, on April 5, a blog post by technologist Andy Baio revealed that a PDF copy of Satoshi Nakamoto’s Bitcoin whitepaper had shipped with every copy of macOS for the past five years. The document was located inside Virtual Scanner II on macOS, and while it was not known why it was there, it was suspected to be “just a prank among Apple engineers,” according to the report.

Wilder conspiracy theories have emerged, including that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs is Satoshi Nakamoto, Apple Insider has reported. However, it is clear that Apple found no humor in it and has removed the document from the latest version of the operating system for Mac.

The white paper was in a folder within the Image Capture app and other seemingly random files like PDFs and images. 9to5Mac commented: “This pretty much confirms our original theory that both the Bitcoin white paper and the internal tool were never intended to be found by normal users.”

On the other hand, a California court has ruled that the tech giant violated state competition laws by preventing developers from using alternative payment methods within apps. Apple tried to force NFT creators and developers to use their own payment platform, where they would be charged a 30% commission, following their signature style.

Australia, following the regulatory guidelines in the cryptocurrency scenario, seeks to provide its citizens with innovative solutions through the eAUD digital currency.

Among the country’s objectives in this matter is to identify possible business models to adapt in the territory, as well as the consolidation of digital finance, minimizing risks and enhancing benefits.

According to the RBA, industry players will be able to help by giving their opinions and making suggestions relevant to this project with the CBDC tentatively called eAUD. Australia is expected to close the pilot platform in April of next year, and the results and conclusions of the project will be published in the middle of the year.
