Venezuelan athletes said goodbye with 7 Olympic diplomas

Of note is the recognition diplomas awarded to the men’s fencing team, made up of brothers Rubén, Jesús and Francisco Limardo, and Grabiel Lugo from Carabobo. Likewise, Rosa Rodríguez obtained recognition in hammer throw, Raider Rodríguez in Greco-Roman wrestling, Yohandri Granado in taekwondo, the weightlifters Anyelin Venegas, Keydomar Vallenilla and Naryuri Pérez.

On this occasion, the 33 Venezuelan athletes who participated in the Olympic Games gave their best in each match, but unfortunately they were not able to match their performance in the Tokyo Games, when Venezuela won four medals: three silver and one gold won by Yulimar Rojas.

Upon their return to the country, they begin their preparation for the next Olympics that will take place in Los Angeles, United States, from July 14 to 30, 2028.

The Venezuelan Robeilys Peinado, with 4.40 meters, was one of the performers tied in twelfth position. “The ones that reached the most was the 4.55 meter bar, so the differences were very small, and the forecasts seem complicated.”

The French capital aspires to become a 100 % bicycle city by 2026. For now, however, the goal is to increase the number of cycling lanes and thus allow access to the venues of the Olympic Games that will take place on December 26. July to August 11.

The use of bicycles is part of the “city’s efforts to promote sustainable mobility”, according to a recent study by the Institut Paris Région (IPR), at the request of public and private institutions, “which places them behind public transport and the march on foot.”

“With 11.2% and 4.3 % respectively, both modes of transport are behind walking, the majority with 53.5 %, and public transport (30 %).”

Regarding sustainable mobility, the French authorities are focused on a “plan of 200 kilometers of metro lines known as the Grand Paris Express, which seeks to connect the suburbs of Paris with public transport and reverse the trend.”

According to the study (October 2022-April 2023), data were collected from 3,337 people, between 16 and 80 years of age, who agreed to be subject to satellite monitoring for a week.

Meanwhile, the city’s mayor, Anne Hidalgo, has made it a priority to reduce car space to the benefit of pedestrians and bicycles.

During a visit to the Bancamiga offices for a photo session, to record several advertising spots and to thank the bank for its support, he said that he will fight to lower this Sunday “a little more” the mark he established in the last edition of Caracas Rock, a competition that he described as his “favorite.”

And it is perfectly understandable that this is the case because every time he participates he wins and breaks the distance record. This is what it has been doing in recent years. In 2022, she crossed the finish line with a great time, beating his best time of the competition by more than two minutes.

“I will fight to lower the record of 32 minutes 36 seconds. Last year I improved the previous one, which was 34.24. If the weather helps us it will be a great race, and it will serve to gain a bit of a strong rhythm to start working in Colombia in preparation for the Pan American Games in Santiago that are close, and where rivals from the United States will be present, who always do it more difficult. I will give everything to be among the medals in these Pan American Games.”

“I am excited that Bancamiga accompanies my dream”

Brea thanked Bancamiga for its support on her path to Paris 2024, which has allowed her to be in the Diamond League, in the World Athletics Championships recently held in Budapest and to maintain her momentum towards the Olympic Games.

“I am very excited and pleased by the support that Bancamiga gives me and my coach throughout this entire cycle of preparation for Paris 2024. I remember perfectly when Alberto Camardiel called me to inform me that Bancamiga will be accompanying my dream. I was in Colombia and I cried. For a long time I had hoped for support like this, and for Bancamiga to bet on me was exciting.”

For the President of the Board of Directors of Bancamiga Banco Universal, Carmelo De Grazia, supporting sport is essential, due to its direct association with well-being and quality of life, and “when this support contributes to elevating the national tricolor as Joselyn has done it this year in different settings in Latin America and Europe, pride increases for the institution.”

“Thank you Bancamiga for believing in me”

Joselyn Brea expressed that she was very happy to be, along with weightlifter Keydomar Vallenilla, the flag bearer of the national team in the Pan American Games that begin on October 20 in Santiago, Chile.

“It is exciting and at the same time a great responsibility to carry the flag of Venezuela. “I’m going to give everything in the 1,500 and 5,000 meter races to get medals for my country,” he said.

In the conversation, he referred to the experience of participating in the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, where he faced the two best 5,000 meter runners today: the Kenyan Faith Kipyegon and the Dutch Sifan Hassan.

“I have a super nice experience, because being next to them is always very motivating and rewarding. Last year I had the opportunity to compete against Hassan in Aragon, but I was not in as good shape as I am now, although in the end I fell a little behind. In a competition of that level you realize that all the effort has been worth it and why you are here running.”

Finally, he stated that, together with Bancamiga, he can already see himself in Paris. “And this has me very motivated to continue working hard to achieve this dream. In Rio 2016 I couldn’t be there because I was injured, for Tokyo 2020 I got Covid. I am 100 % focused and confident that we will be in Paris. Thank you Bancamiga for believing in me.”

This edition of the tournament, which is usually held every four years, was the “strangest” Olympics in history, as many media described it.

On the one hand, fireworks lit up the Tokyo Olympic Stadium to usher in this final chapter. In the opening space called “A world of applause”, the excitement of the Olympic Games was relived with a video that reviews the 17 days of events and competitions.

“The Venezuelan athlete Yulimar Rojas is an outstanding, absolute star in this compilation,” said Tamara Gil, the correspondent for BBC Mundo in Tokyo, from the Japanese stadium.

With the hospitality that characterizes them, the Tokyoites said goodbye with an “arigato” in glittering letters, placed on both sides of the colossus. In a feeling of gratitude that without a doubt should also be a respite for the guests, Gil said.

Later, the Japanese national flag was carried onto the stage of the stadium by six flag bearers. According to the organizers, it was a moment for the Japanese hosts to “express to the entire world utmost gratitude” for the healthcare professionals, and other roles, who worked tirelessly during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Resilience games come to an end and Tokyo prepares for Paralympics

In an almost empty stadium, the national anthem of Japan sounded, intoned by Takarazuka Revue, a musical theater company with more than 100 years of history.

Prince Fumihito, heir to the throne of Japan, was in the stands with Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The organizers of the event expressed their gratitude for the countless people who gave their support and effort or collaboration to materialize the closing ceremony.

For its part, Paris took over from Tokyo on Sunday and officially welcomed this new Olympic stage with a ceremony in the capital that served as an aperitif for the 2024 Games.

Tokyo is now preparing to kick off the World Paralympic Games on August 24, 2021.
