With the support of IDB Invest, Panama has begun seeking $1 billion in private investment to bolster key sectors of its development: energy, construction, tourism, water and sanitation, housing, digital infrastructure, employment, manufacturing, agribusiness, and financial services.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) announced that the strategic alliance with IDB Invest, the private sector arm of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, will help “boost the economy, expand access to financing, strengthen productive sectors with growth potential, and contribute to job creation.”

The ministry explained that the funds would be allocated directly to private companies and projects “or channeled through financial institutions to expand access to credit for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).”

In addition to financing, technical assistance is expected for initiatives in the renewable energy, energy efficiency, electric mobility, and resilient infrastructure sectors.

It is important to note that in the first half of 2026, IDB Invest committed approximately $200 million in new operations in Panama and plans to increase that amount as new eligible projects are identified and approved.

Inflation in Mexico showed a monthly variation of 0.23 % in September 2025. On the other hand, the annual rate was 3.76 %, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

Regarding the National Consumer Price Index (INPC), the indicator reflected a moderation in inflationary pressures, triggering increases in the prices of “educational services, prepared foods, and housing, while agricultural and energy products showed declines.”

The core index, “which concentrates the goods and services whose prices respond most directly to market conditions, registered a monthly variation of 0.33 % and an annual increase of 4.28 %.”

In detail, merchandise prices increased 0.34 % and services prices, 0.32 %. The largest increases occurred in university tuition (1.82 %), primary education (5.98 %), and snack bars, restaurants, and taco stands (0.47 %). The non-core index, in contrast, decreased 0.10% monthly and showed an annual variation of 2.02 %. Prices for avocados (-11.34 %), potatoes (-6.82 %), eggs (-2.28 %), and LP gas (-0.67 %) helped contain headline inflation.

The minimum consumption basket, “which reflects the prices of essential goods and services, showed a monthly variation of 0.27 % and an annual variation of 3.74 %, moderating compared to the previous year.”

An investigation carried out by the Interactuar Corporation with the purpose of knowing the economic and social conditions of entrepreneurs in Colombia showed that micro-enterprises in that country are showing “signs of recovery” after the pandemic since they managed to generate an “average 2.7 jobs”. The figure is equivalent to 2019 before the emergence of Covid-19.

Andrea Zuluaga, director of business transformation at Interactuar, explained that “microenterprises have been recovering after the pandemic in terms of employment.” As well as in the time of permanence in the market of “going from an average of 8.8 years in 2019 to registering 12.8 years in 2021”.

The purpose of Interactuar Corporation is to accompany microenterprise entrepreneurs and businessmen in Colombia with a comprehensive model and currently accompanies 49,000 entrepreneurs and supports the creation of microenterprises in 220 Colombian municipalities.

The study also made it possible to measure the evolution of sales in the Colombian market and determined that they are below the figures achieved before the pandemic. There was a decrease in the monthly average of sales from “5.5 legal monthly minimum wages in force in 2019 to 3.4 in 2021”.

According to what was expressed by Zuluaga, “there is growth in sales, but it has not reached the levels it was in 2019” who highlighted that there are in the country “many gaps in the part of income equity and gaps in quality of life“.

The data provided by the study also show that entrepreneurship can be an option to improve the quality of life of entrepreneurs. The figures indicate that “90 % of the entrepreneurs consulted considered that their business has helped them to have a good diet, while 63.5 % stated that it has allowed them to improve their health conditions and 53 % their housing conditions.

Another variable addressed in the research was labor, which is quite complex and the figures show it. Barely 12.3 % of microentrepreneurs indicated that their workers are affiliated with social security and only 7.8 % are affiliated with the compensation fund. While 62% of entrepreneurs indicated that their business is the only source of income for their households.
