According to Google’s announcement, this will be possible thanks to the integration of Quick Share, Android’s fast file transfer tool, with Apple’s AirDrop service.

The move constitutes “a historic change that breaks down one of the most persistent barriers between the two operating systems: the difficulty of easily sharing files between devices.”

As is known, Quick Share is Android’s fast file transfer tool, combined with Apple’s AirDrop service. “Starting this month, with the Pixel 10 family, users will be able to wirelessly send photos, documents, and videos between Android phones and iPhones without needing to resort to external apps or more cumbersome methods like email or instant messaging.”

Google explained in a statement that the decision responds to a user request: “the need for a direct and secure file-sharing system between platforms: Many people wanted an easier way to share files between devices.”

According to the company, what they seek is to provide greater “synergy between a Windows Home PC and a smartphone, allowing users to respond to text messages, receive and make calls, and check their phone notifications directly from the computer.”

It involves establishing a synchronization between a PC and an Android mobile phone with Home Windows through the Cellphone Hyperlink application. The functionality is part of the new internal Windows preview that Microsoft is testing. Now, clicking “Share” on a file “will bring up a quick share window showing the user’s Android phone that has been paired with the PC.”

This news was announced as part of the Beta Channel updates with Home Windows 11 Insider Preview Construct 22635.3785. It has been warned that they may take time to be available to all Home Windows 11 users.

But the innovations don’t stop there. “Other improvements being tested with Preview Construct include adjustments to the Home Windows Highlight feature, as well as other fixes for known issues. The update will make it easier for users to change images and interact with the Home Windows Highlight experience on the desktop.”

It is timely to remember that in May, a report from Home Windows Central claimed that the Cellphone Hyperlink application on Home Windows would soon get a “new optical character recognition (OCR) feature that would allow users to copy text from images.” It is a matter of hoping that the technology company will soon make the formal announcement of said change.

Nearby Share is a way of sending files that only requires that both the mobile from which it is sent and the one that receives it be close, since it transfers this content using wireless technology (Bluetooth, WiFi, UWB or WebRTC).

Google is now working on a new format for sharing files via QR code, so that it will not be necessary to search for other terminals using this technology when sending videos or photos.

This has been verified by the Android Authority, which has indicated that when using Nearby Share the option ‘Use a QR code to share’ will appear below the search window for nearby devices.

Then, it must be scanned with the device on which it is expected to receive this content through applications such as Google Lens. Once recognized, the transfer will start. This portal has warned, however, that this feature is not yet available.
