The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, assured that the government is accelerating housing construction to be given to those who lost their homes on June 24. The goal for this year is 4,000 units and 10,000 by 2027.

Official data indicates that during last month’s earthquakes, 850 buildings were damaged and 190 collapsed completely. Hence the need to provide a rapid response to the affected families.

According to Rodríguez, some 200 families have already received housing in social housing complexes. Simultaneously, the government is working on the reconstruction of homes according to current conditions.

Estimates indicate that due to the magnitude of the damage caused by the double earthquake of June 24, Venezuela will require approximately 25,000 homes.

The Venezuelan government indicated that economic aid will be allocated to those affected by the earthquakes for six months.

Likewise, the Executive Branch approved a decree for “the start of a subsidy plan of up to 80% on the mortgage loan portfolio for the repair and purchase of homes.”

Banking resources will be used to facilitate housing solutions. “The funds originate from capital held abroad.”

On the other hand, the government decided to eliminate “taxes on real estate transactions carried out in protected areas”; a measure that applies to commercial and institutional transactions.
