The new Bitchat messaging app, recently launched by Jack Dorsey, can be used offline. According to the creator of Bluesky and co-founder of Twitter, it’s a Bluetooth mesh network service that doesn’t use servers, accounts, or data collection.

Currently, Bitchat is being tested by a group of 10,000 users. The creator himself indicated on X that it’s an experiment, whose beta version is available on TestFlight. He added that the app “provides ephemeral, encrypted communication without relying on internet infrastructure, making it resilient to network outages and censorship.”

Dorsey emphasized key aspects related to messages, which are stored only on devices and disappear by default; it also allows public chatting “or access to rooms that can be password-protected.”

Tile has announced the launch of Tile For Cats, a new accessory kit for cats that includes a silicone collar and a tracker that works with Bluetooth and allows you to monitor its location.

Tile is an American company specialized in devices with Bluetooth connectivity that act as locators and whose products include Sticker, a smart adhesive button that works like an Air Tag.

This ‘gadget’ works with an application available for iOS and Android, which allows you to find the object if you lose it, since it includes a system that makes it sound to locate it more easily.

The company has now developed a new version of this locator applied to animals. Specifically, cats, since Tile for cats is presented as a locator integrated into a silicone strap that allows monitoring the whereabouts of these animals.

This is possible thanks to the fact that it has the same Bluetooth location system, which reaches 250 feet (more than 76 meters) and also works with devices with iOS and Android operating systems.

The tracker, which has a non-removable battery that promises to last up to three years, can be stretched and returned to its original shape according to the needs of the cat and is also waterproof, due to its IP67 certification.

In addition, it is compatible with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and Siri, and it is designed to resist all the cat’s movements, since it has double fixing points and a special coating to prevent hair from sticking to it or getting dirty.

Google is currently working on a native Bluetooth tracker detection format for devices with the Android operating system, which would incorporate the features of the Tracker Detecter application developed by Apple.

Apple launched Tracker Detect for Android devices at the end of 2021. The application that helps users of these mobiles find their own AirTag locators which, until then, could only be detected using iOS mobiles or discover if someone is watching them.

As explained by the iPhone manufacturer, on the Google Play page it is indicated that this service is capable of searching for item trackers separated from their owners and compatible with Apple’s Find My network.

Now, as 9to5Google has warned in an APK build of a Google app, a set of lines of code have been found which suggest the company intends to implement a similar feature.

Google Play works on new services

Google started working on Google Play services last March. In the latest version of this platform (22.12.13) there are two lines of code that could be related to its native tracker, ‘Unknown Device Alerts’ and ‘Unknown Tag Notification’ for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology.

These lines are followed by others in which there are three types of references: ‘Finder tag’, ‘Tile tag’ and ‘ATag’. The latter could refer to Apple tracking devices or AirTags.

The detection of Bluetooth trackers in Android is in an early stage of development and it is unknown how it will work. Tracker Detect’s solution, for example, requires users to manually initiate a search for nearby trackers, while the native iPhone solution works automatically in the background.

In addition, the iOS operating system allows precise location using ultra-wide band (UWB), a sensor that some Android mobile phones already integrate.

OnePlus announced this Monday the official launch in India of its new smartwatch with a special Harry Potter edition, which includes new finishes, personalized and exclusive dials, as well as a vegan leather strap inspired by the saga created by J.K. Rowling.

In this special edition, created by the Chinese company in collaboration with Warner Bros., the technical specifications that OnePlus Watch has are maintained: its 1.39-inch AMOLED screen, integrated GPS and blood oxygen sensor, according to OnePlus in its Web page.

Among the novelties included in this model is the customization of its appearance, specifically of its dials, as well as its finishes and the box that contains it. To see the clock, you need to open this box in half, as if it were a wall.

With this detail, OnePlus refers to one of the scenes from the first movie of this wizarding saga, when two of its characters, Rubeus Hagrid and Harry Potter, enter Diagon Alley through a door with bricks that move from the patio of the Leaky Cauldron.

In relation to its finishes, the one that the technological house has chosen for this edition stands out, in gold and with a dark brown strap, in reference to the uniform worn by the Quidditch teams and the Snitch ball. The recognizable logo of the series, with an “H” inside a small shield, is engraved on the strap.

Another of the novelties highlighted by OnePlus Watch is the new range of unique spheres in this edition and customizable with the animated shields of the four houses that make up Hogwarts: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.

In addition, it has a battery life of up to 14 days on a single charge, hands-free calling, remote camera and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. This special edition also monitors heart rate, stress, and blood oxygen levels.

This smartwatch has been launched in India and it has not been specified if it will be marketed in other countries. At the moment, it is known that its price is 16,999 rupees (the equivalent of 195 euros in Spain), while the normal edition OnePlus does not exceed 14,999 rupees (171 euros).
