This project aims to offer users advantages over traditional payment infrastructure, focusing on cross-border payments, business-to-business payments, and the practical use of digital assets, including CBDCs.

“The initiative aims to integrate blockchain payments with banks, merchants, and consumers in more than 200 countries and territories,” according to MasterCard, in a joint effort with “exchanges, blockchain developers, fintech firms, and banks, with the goal of exploring how digital asset-based systems can operate alongside traditional payment lanes.”

Other prominent crypto and technology companies involved in the program include Consensys, Fluency, Fireblocks, Circle, Gemini, and Paxos, integrated into a plan to bridge the gap between blockchain and the traditional payment system. For MasterCard, the challenge “lies in connecting new technologies with networks that already process global payments at scale, something crucial if broader adoption in the real economy is desired.”

As Thomas Gregory, Vice President of Fiat Services at Binance, explained: “Worldpay® is recognized as one of the world’s leading eCommerce payments companies and is a natural partner for Binance by offering Apple Pay and Google Pay to our users—providing greater accessibility and options to purchase cryptocurrencies with two of the most popular mobile payment methods.”

Separately, Nabil Manji, Director of FinTech Growth and Financial Partnerships at Worldpay®, highlighted that “digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay have established themselves as the preferred payment methods for consumers globally,” and now Binance is facilitating access to cryptocurrencies “by offering even more payment options, allowing users to explore the crypto world with greater ease and confidence, ultimately improving the user experience.”

It is the second time that the company has been under judicial investigation for these alleged crimes, which could also include drug trafficking.

In fact, it is said that this new investigation would be an extension of the investigation started in France in 2023, “which focused on the alleged role of the platform in aiding money laundering and illicit financing activities, among other alleged violations.”

That year, the cryptocurrency exchange market experienced a collapse due to the bankruptcy of FTX and other platforms. “The US Securities and Exchange Commission, the Department of Justice and other agencies have taken legal action against large operators such as Binance, Coinbase and other cryptocurrency operators.”

Among the most high-profile cases was that of Coinbase, which refuted the claims and made. In the case of Binance, the company “reached the largest settlement in DOJ history. The company agreed to pay $4.3 billion in fines, with improvements in compliance and changes in management. However, the SEC case against the largest centralized company continued.”

In this sense, the legal director of Ripple, Stuart Alderoty, and of Coinbase, Paul Grewal, have criticized the position of the SEC (United States Securities and Exchange Commission) in using the term “cryptoactive securities” at the bottom of the lawsuit against Binance, in addition to referring to other regulatory inconsistencies of the entity since 2017 regarding the cryptocurrency industry.

In response to the claims, the SEC clarified its use of the term “cryptoactive securities” through an amendment to the notes to the lawsuit against Binance.

The claim by Ripple and Coinbase points to a possible deception by the SEC before the judges by using the term without legal basis, according to its specialists, since it is not found in any statute and has been created by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Given the confusion, the organization admitted that the term “crypto asset value” is not real. Given this, it is presumed that it was used to prove that these are investment contracts.

Card operations on Binance were suspended on December 20 in the European Economic Area (EEA) due to regulatory measures and after problems arose with the payment processor Paysafe, which abandoned the platform.

In any case, the reestablishment of operations will be done under stricter security measures accepted by Visa and Mastercard and will allow transactions in a fluid and monitored manner.

The SEC’s accusations against Binance and regulatory issues have kept the platform in crisis, which is beginning to regain customer trust in its quest to restore its balance in the market.

The first round of launch occurred this May 29, with locations such as Madeira, Lisbon and Manchester. “The vibrant artworks by Portuguese artists Katt Phatt (representing Madeira) and Rodrigo Doin (Lisbon) represent the place where Cristiano Ronaldo’s journey began.”

Fans have the opportunity to acquire this piece from the beginning of his history in this sport. This first release also includes an NFT artwork by Manchester artist John Sheehan, in tribute to his rapid rise in Manchester.

Next June 6 is the second launch, where the city of Madrid will also be a mandatory stop on this tour through NFTs, in addition to Turin and Saudi Arabia. The designs of the Spanish artist Lisett Ledón will represent her “unprecedented success” in the Spanish capital. This piece encompasses his passion for the Spanish League, “while the artist Pasquale Garibaldi (Italy) will capture his time in Turin, celebrating his legacy in Serie A and Italian football. Finally, Saudi artist Shaker Kashgari has designed an NFT to mark Cristiano Ronaldo’s final and most recent chapter in Saudi Arabia.”

Introducing my newest NFT collection which launches today on #Binance.

It will be a delight for fans, who will take a tour of CR7’s career: Madeira, Lisbon, Manchester, Madrid, Turin, Saudi Arabia and Portugal, according to Binance.

The last phase of this launch is an auction at the end of June when interested parties will be able to access a very special limited collection of 7 Super Super Rare (SSR) NFTs. Designed by local artist Mr. Dheo, the limited collection “pays tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo’s unwavering dedication to his native country and can be purchased through an online auction from June 14 to 18.”

Starting June 11, superfans who have collected all the NFTs in the collection of this fourth Ronaldo release will be entered to win one of the special NFTs for free.

“Priced at $35 at all locations except the limited SSR NFTs, the collection introduces a ‘Collect to Earn’ mechanism to access the utilities and benefits of the NFTs.” It means that collectors can start earning rewards from the first purchase of a Forever Worldwide NFT, “including vintage t-shirts, football tickets, signed and printable posters and the possibility of sending questions that Cristiano will answer in a video made especially for holders of NFTs.”

Another important information, taking into account how special Portugal is for the athlete, is that “holders of the rare NFTs from Portugal will receive an exclusive experience with Cristiano himself, which includes a trip to Riyadh, a ticket to a match of football, followed by a personalized moment of celebrating a goal with Cristiano.” The auction for it will be on June 14; and the four highest bidders will win this rare NFT.

With this license, the exchange will be able to expand its service offering in Dubai, where it has operated since 2023 through the initial issuance of the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) License in July 2023, this marks a significant milestone for Binance and the global landscape of virtual assets.

Under this VASP License, Binance FZE is authorized to “expand its product offering to the retail market alongside qualified and institutional investors. Individual clients can now access a wide range of digital asset products and services, including spot trading, margin trading and staking, the widest range of regulated virtual asset services available not only in the UAE, but also throughout the world.”

Market coverage in Dubai now goes beyond “spot trading and fiat services. Instead of simply expanding the selection of tokens, users will be able to rely on a greater variety of exchange services.”

It was learned that Binance FZE will offer personalized services such as Simple Earn, will introduce new options through its lending and borrowing services, including virtual asset loans. On the other hand, management and investment services will allow users to take advantage of possibilities such as ETH Staking, BNB Vault and Launchpool to amplify the profit potential of their digital assets.

Without a doubt, the issuance of the VASP License is a major step forward in opening up UAE users to have access to a regulated platform for the entire spectrum of digital asset products and services.

Alex Chehade, general manager of Binance FZE, stressed that this is a very important achievement and that Dubai is a “visionary city, which recognizes and embraces the financial potential that blockchain technology offers#”.

According to one report, this claim appears to be true. The hacker in question has access to an account associated with the “KodexGlobal” platform, which has the power to request user information from companies.

The report details that the hacker is trading access to this account for $5,000. In addition, it offers the possibility to request emergency data from the Service of Interest (EDR) for $300.

With this access, interested parties can get information from people on LinkedIn, Discord, Tinder, SendGrid, and other services. Crypto platforms such as Binance, Coinbase and Chainlink stand out in particular.

Unlike other types of attacks, this modality does not directly compromise the security of the sites and services identified. However, the use of fake or stolen credentials allows access to customers’ private information, making them possible targets for attacks and phishing campaigns.

The KodexGlobal account is used for communications and requests related to regulators and legal agencies.

Those who have control over this account can write to any service and request information about users, citing legal justification. It is believed that access to this session was obtained through a vulnerability in the file transfer software known as MOVEit.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), this decision is due to the investigations and processes that the exchange faces in the US, which has led the regulators of those states to take action on the matter.

In the case of Florida, the regulators sued Binance.US to protect local citizens. This occurs despite the fact that the company still has a license to operate in that state, but that expires in April of this year.

As for Alaska, the halt of operations is due to the fact that local banking regulators rejected renewing the license of Binance.US, without giving further explanations on the matter.

These actions in Alaska and Florida against Binance.US are part of the efforts of the regulators to supervise more closely the companies in the crypto sector. This is related to the problems that Binance had and that resulted in a million-dollar agreement to resolve the accusations against it, which allows it to continue offering its services in the country with certain restrictions.

At the end of last year, the US government reached an agreement with Binance for the payment of more than USD $4,000 million in fines, mainly before the Treasury Department and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

During a January 22 hearing in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, Binance’s legal team presented its case, focusing on the treatment of certain tokens as securities under current regulatory and legal frameworks.

A Reuters report detailed Binance’s defense strategy, noting that an exchange lawyer accused the SEC of taking a contradictory stance toward cryptocurrencies. It was argued that while the SEC encouraged companies in the sector to register, it at the same time prevented them from any viable avenue to do so.

During the hearing, it was reported that the SEC defended the clarity of Howey’s test to determine whether an asset qualifies as a value, also applicable to cryptocurrencies. To this, Judge Amy Berman Jackson expressed her doubts, asking where the line was drawn in the SEC’s interpretation of digital assets as securities.

This case between the SEC and Binance could set a significant precedent for cryptocurrency companies in the United States. Many of these companies have criticized the lack of a clear regulatory framework, which has triggered compliance actions against several, including Binance, Coinbase, Ripple and Kraken.

In a related context, Binance, Binance.US and former CEO Changpeng Zhao reached an agreement in November 2023 with several U.S. government entities, including the Department of Justice and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, for an amount of $4.3 billion. As part of the settlement, Zhao pleaded guilty to a serious charge and is expected to be sentenced on February 23.

The January 22 hearing, originally scheduled for January 19, was postponed due to adverse weather conditions. So far, Binance’s legal team has not offered further statements on the case.
