Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin issued a warning about AI, stating that this technology could break the cryptography protecting Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The Russian author doesn’t refer to an immediate danger, but does recommend being careful with exposure to the most vulnerable cryptography.

The warning was issued on October 7th, when Buterin responded to Drake, who has been “asking the industry to prepare for what he calls a ‘bunker mode’ for some time.” The conversation revolved around two areas: “lattices, a type of mathematical problem that underpins post-quantum signatures, and the signature algorithm used by virtually all cryptocurrency wallets.”

Without delving into the mathematical complexity, the discussion focused on analyzing “the mechanism that transforms a private key into a verifiable signature without revealing it, and which underlies every Bitcoin or Ether transfer. Anyone who could break it could sign transactions on behalf of another.”

According to Buterin, the industry assumes that elliptic curves will fall to quantum computers and that hash functions — which combine data into a fixed-length code without an exploitable pattern — and lattices will endure. His doubt lies in this second point.

The Ethereum co-founder advises digital asset holders against moving their funds to new wallets for now and warned against taking seriously the risks that AI poses to cryptography.

Buterin’s fear stems from a debate that is not recent, but rather dates back several years, during which the question of “what will happen when a quantum computer can break public-key cryptography” has been discussed. The novelty lies in the risk factor: it is not quantum computing, but artificial intelligence applied to mathematics.

The aim of the law is to “increase the transparency of large platforms and reduce the dangers linked to their services.”

“Brussels has classified ChatGPT as a very large online search engine, while Reddit and Roblox have been categorized as large internet platforms.”

The European Commission will strengthen its oversight of algorithms and the risks associated with their services, particularly regarding the “dissemination of illegal content, the protection of minors, and the impact that certain functionalities may have on the user’s mental and physical health.” It will also consider “risks associated with public safety, electoral procedures, and fundamental rights.”

The Commission may request an analysis of the platforms’ operations and, when necessary, of related systems and functions.

Classification of large platforms

This category refers to platforms with a large number of users in the European Union that warrant greater oversight compared to other digital platforms.

“With these new additions, the European Commission now has 28 online platforms and search engines classified as very large services under the Digital Services Act.”

The inclusion of ChatGPT, Roblox, and Reddit makes clear the regional strategy to “increase control over large technology companies. EU regulation also extends to the growing AI ecosystem.”

The plan’s main focuses are consolidating a mature monetary regime aligned with international standards; reducing the inflation target; reconstruction of peso-denominated markets, reduction of tax and parafiscal costs associated with dollarization; new investment laws.

The Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU) is working on “a draft bill for Open Finance, which would enable an ecosystem where users can have greater control over their own financial data, and design a minimum public infrastructure that functions as an interoperability layer between entities.”

The five-year plan also includes strengthening the National Strategy for Combating Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, and the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction, approved in July of last year and in effect until March 2030.

As a preliminary step to its stock market listing, the company wants to strengthen its balance sheet with a new round of private funding. In this regard, “it is reportedly negotiating a capital increase with new investors, based on a preliminary valuation of at least 480 billion yuan, equivalent to approximately $71 billion.”

Initially, they hope to raise 10 billion yuan, although the final figure could be higher depending on the level of interest generated by the negotiations among potential investors.

DeepSeek, founded in 2023 and controlled by the investment fund Zhejiang High-Flyer Asset Management, has become one of the leading exponents of artificial intelligence development in China.

It has gained ground in the market after “presenting a model capable of competing with the most advanced platforms on the market using fewer computing resources.” Currently, the goal is “to significantly expand its computing capacity to train increasingly powerful models. Young people between 18 and 24 years old (56%) have not read a newspaper regularly. Furthermore, “news consumption via television and media websites and apps has declined in all age groups, except for those over 55.”

In addition, 77 % of respondents use news videos on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, making this source of information more popular than television in most of the markets analyzed, except for Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands. Content creators or influencers are consulted by 27 % of those interviewed, although they are not their sole source of information.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Monday, June 8, a £1.1 billion investment plan for AI development, a new national supercomputer, and support for local semiconductor companies.

Specifically, this money will be used “for the acquisition of specialized AI chips, as part of a broader effort to strengthen the country’s technological sovereignty.”

Key items in the budget include a £750 million national AI supercomputer, slated to become operational in 2030. It will utilize a mixed system of chips: proven processors alongside next-generation ones.

Of the estimated sum, £400 million will be allocated to next-generation chips, “including £150 million for inference chips to be purchased this summer from British companies.”

Separately, a fund led by the US venture capital firm Playground Global, and “backed by up to £150 million from the British Business Bank (BBB), will invest in UK AI hardware companies.”

The initiative includes a £120 million AI hardware innovation program to fund local companies in the design, development, and testing of new chips.

“A new £45 million allocation for skills support brings total government funding for AI hardware skills to £80 million.”

ESET, the leading company in proactive threat detection, announced a €40 million investment in the future of AI-driven cybersecurity, as the company warns of a rapidly emerging new attack surface fueled by autonomous, agency-enabled AI systems.

The commitment — announced by ESET CEO Richard Marko at ESET World 2026 — comes in response to a shift ESET has observed in its own data. Since March 2026, ESET technologies have analyzed nearly 800,000 unique AI skills (modular components that instruct AI agents on how to perform tasks, use tools, access services, and interact with external systems). Approximately 25,000 of these skills were classified as suspicious, and more than 3,000 were blocked for being malicious.

This total represents a 13-fold increase compared to the approximately 60,000 publicly available skills observed earlier this year. According to ESET’s research team, AI skills are part of a rapidly growing layer in the software supply chain, often connecting sensitive systems to external repositories, plugins, datasets, and third-party services.

“Cybersecurity is entering a completely new era,” said Richard Marko, CEO of ESET. “Artificial intelligence is no longer just a defensive tool. It is becoming part of the attack surface itself. Our investment is focused on ensuring that AI strengthens cybersecurity rather than weakening it, and on developing technologies capable of protecting organizations in a world of autonomous AI.”

The initiative aims to strengthen ESET’s technological independence and European sovereignty in cybersecurity at a time when access to advanced artificial intelligence systems is increasingly concentrated in the hands of a small number of global technology companies. “We believe that the future of cybersecurity cannot depend entirely on models controlled by large technology companies,” added Marko.

Backed by a three-year recruitment plan that will grow ESET’s R&D team to 1,000 dedicated research and engineering professionals, the €40 million investment will focus on three strategic areas:
