Early retirement: Lagarde to leave the ECB in February 2027
Christine Lagarde, the current president of the European Central Bank, confirmed that she will leave her post on February 7, 2027, eight months earlier than planned
The current president of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, had delayed revealing details about her departure date. However, she has now confirmed that it will be February 7, 2027, eight months earlier than planned.
The President of the European Council, António Costa, indicated this Thursday, October 29, that the procedures to choose Lagarde’s successor at the head of the ECB have been activated.
Lagarde has not provided any information about her next move. However, there is speculation about the connection between her early departure from the ECB and the upcoming French presidential elections in April 2027, where she could potentially hold a prominent position.
