Directv ceased operations in Venezuela

The American company AT&T reported yesterday, May 19, that it will no longer continue to provide service in the Latin country

The US company AT&T reported yesterday May 19 the immediate cessation of Directv Latin America’s operations in Venezuela, through a statement it published on its website.

The company announced that the United States sanctions against Venezuela prohibit the broadcasting of the Globovisión channel and the state-owned PDVSA TV, being, in turn, one of the requirements for their stay in the South American country, by the government of Nicolás Maduro.

“Because it is impossible for AT&T’s Directv unit to comply with the legal requirements of both countries, AT&T was forced to close its pay television operations in Venezuela,” the multinational described.

Likewise, in the statement the industry clarified that this decision was made in the United States and was not known to the local directive in Venezuela.
