The Chinese Tianwen-3 mission will leave Earth in 2028 with the aim of bringing back samples from the planet Mars in 2030
In 2028, the Chinese National Space Administration will launch the Tianwen-3 space mission with the purpose of collecting samples from the surface of Mars. The mission will be carried out in 13 phases and the return would be scheduled for the year 2030.
According to the authorities of China’s space service, “among the main challenges are the collection of samples on the Martian surface, takeoff from Mars and docking in the planet’s orbit, in a mission that will be developed in 13 phases with in situ detections and remote sensing.”
Liu Jizhong, chief planner of the Tianwen-3 mission, noted that they will carry “payloads developed in collaboration with other countries” and joint studies will be carried out on the samples collected.
On the other hand, he emphasized that the country will guarantee, in accordance with international conventions, the protection of Mars and Earth during this process.
