China reacts to Trump’s new tariffs by eliminating duties for 53 African countries

In response to Donald Trump's latest decision on tariff barriers and increased US protectionism, China reacted by eliminating tariffs for 53 of the 54 African countries

Donald Trump’s tariff pressure has led China to eliminate duties for almost all African countries. In fact, it has benefited 53 of the continent’s 54 nations.

For the moment, it is known that the only African country excluded from the measure is Eswatini, “because it maintains formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan.”

In any case, the most notable aspect is that this Chinese policy “grants the largest African economies access to its market duty-free for the next two years,” starting last Friday, May 1st.

It is a duty-free agreement for their goods. According to the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council of the Asian country, the agreement will promote “the common development of China and Africa, facilitating the entry of products that previously faced tariffs of between 8 % and 30 %.”

In this regard, the first shipment was a 24-ton consignment of apples from South Africa that arrived via Shenzhen.
