British businessman Mike Lynch among those missing after shipwreck in Italy

This Monday, August 19, it was learned that the body of technology entrepreneur Mike Lynch, known as the British Bill Gates, was found by firefighters in the wreck of the British-flagged yacht Bayesian in Sicily, Italy

This Monday, August 19, the body of British technology entrepreneur Mike Lynch was located in the wreck of the British-flagged yacht Bayesian in Sicily, after the boat capsized off the port of Porticello due to a tornado in the area.

Firefighters found Lynch’s body inside the hull at a depth of 49 meters and are continuing the search for six other tourists of American and British nationality who, according to reports, were trapped in the cabins.

The Italian Coast Guard intervened in this sinking involving a sailboat approximately 50 meters in length that was carrying 22 people; 10 crew and 12 passengers.

In a statement, they reported that they managed to rescue 15 people. “The first castaways, rescued by a ship present in the vicinity, were taken ashore by four Coast Guard boats. According to some media, the body that has been recovered would be that of a member of the crew who worked as a cook and has Canadian nationality, although born on the island of Antigua.”

The wife of Lynch, the 59-year-old British businessman, is among the 15 people rescued after the shipwreck that occurred at 05:00 local time (03:00 GMT on Monday). The cause of the shipwreck would have been a tornado that hit the area and broke the main mast, causing an imbalance that later caused it to sink.
