Albania suspends use of TikTok for one year
The short video platform TikTok was suspended in Albania for one year due to irregularities in the children's segment
The Albanian government announced the decision to close the short video platform TikTok for one year due to irregularities that occurred with the child population.
According to the country’s Minister of Education, Ogerta Manastirliu, the Chinese company “must implement certain restrictions related to child safety.”
The measure was approved after a consultation carried out with nearly 65,000 parents, who mostly recommended “closing or restricting” the platform.
Closing TikTok for one year will give local authorities the opportunity to take and apply “temporary measures to avoid the negative impacts of TikTok.”
It was learned that talks are already underway with representatives of the platform for the implementation of “control measures and filters in Albanian language in order to regulate access based on age, and thus prevent the promotion of unwanted behavior” as a result of “violent content or content related to bullying, especially among children.”
