WHO will develop health projects in Venezuela

The representative of the WHO and PAHO, Cristian Morales, announced that 32 projects will be developed in Venezuela to strengthen the country's health system

The representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Cristian Morales, announced the development of 32 projects in the health sector with the purpose of strengthening the health system in Venezuela.

Morales said: “We are discussing with the Ministry of Health where the priorities are to be able to intervene in the areas of comprehensive community health; as well as raising management capacities, delivering medicines and supplies, recovering the infrastructure.”

The projects will be offering support in various areas such as: medicines, strengthening the capacities of health centers, such as the Comprehensive Diagnostic Centers (CDI), among others.

Reactivate the pharmaceutical industry

The representative of the WHO and PAHO highlighted the importance of reactivating the country’s pharmaceutical industry to be able to produce the medicines that the population requires and that allow them to improve their health conditions. In his opinion, the country has a fairly strong pharmaceutical industry compared to other countries.

“Not only raise production, not only raise the laboratories where the medicines and vaccines that Venezuela can develop are produced; but also to raise the capacities of the Ministry of Health, of the Institute of Hygiene to be able to ensure that this production is of quality”, he explained.

On the other hand, Morales also referred to the need to optimize the living conditions of workers, who, in his opinion, are working in “very complex conditions” that have worsened as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Morales also confirmed that the WHO, like PAHO, has always supported the country in the “definition, implementation, and supervision of public health policies.”
