Four Venezuelan universities among the Top 100 in Latin America

The 2027 edition of the QS Latin America & The Caribbean University Ranking, published on October 1 by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), places four Venezuelan universities among the top 100 in Latin America: UCV, UCAB, USB, and ULA

On Thursday, October 1, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) published the 2027 edition of the QS Latin America & The Caribbean University Ranking, which places four Venezuelan universities among the top 100 in Latin America. These universities are the Central University of Venezuela, Andrés Bello Catholic University, Simón Bolívar University, and the University of the Andes.

“The Central University of Venezuela (UCV) led the country’s representation, ranking 38th in the regional ranking. It is followed by Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB) in 81st place; Simón Bolívar University (USB) in 84th; and the University of the Andes (ULA) in 95th.”

The list comprises 517 universities from 27 countries. In the case of Venezuela, nine universities, both public and private, appear in the ranking. “In addition to the four universities that entered the top 100, the University of Zulia (LUZ) is ranked 145th; the Metropolitan University (Unimet) is in the 171-180 band; the University of Carabobo (UC) is in the 201-250 band; and the Dr. Rafael Belloso Chacín Private University (URBE) and the Technological University of the Center (Unitec) are both in the 401+ band.”

QS methodology of excellence

This methodology “considers academic reputation, the student-to-faculty ratio, the percentage of staff with doctorates, the international research network, citations per article, articles per faculty member, and web impact.”

Each factor represents a percentage of the evaluation: academic reputation represents 30 % of the result and employer reputation 20 %. The student-to-faculty ratio and the percentage of staff with doctorates each represent 10 %; the international research network and citations per article each represent 10 %. while articles per professor and web impact each contribute 5 %.
