This Thursday, October 1, the Dominican Republic’s Consulate General in Caracas, Venezuela, is scheduled to reopen, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) of the Central American country.
The decision, according to the Dominican Foreign Ministry, is part of the “process of re-establishing diplomatic relations between Venezuela and various countries in Latin America and the Caribbean,” focused on “normalizing communication channels and consular assistance between both nations.”
For this reopening, authorities have instructed the Consul General of the Dominican Republic in Colombia, Santiago Rutinel Domínguez, to “assume responsibility for the operational management of visa processing for Venezuelan citizens,” which will help to streamline the migration processes that have been the focus of attention recently.
The decision is considered a significant step in Dominican foreign policy, allowing Venezuelan citizens wishing to travel to the Dominican Republic to have “a direct and efficient channel to manage their consular and visa requirements, under the protocols established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX).”
